Sado Island 大善神社 Noh Stage
I had a bite to eat today at La Pagode,
located across the road from 妙宣寺, the Nichiren-sect temple of the famous pagoda, hence the name of the cafe. The proprietor urged me to visit mearby Daizen Shrine for its Noh stage, said to be the most significant on the island. As you can see from the photos, the shrine proper is upstaged by the stage. The reeds are kaya (茅), used in thatching roofs (again, the stage), of which there are many such on Sado (and today I saw the untrimmed article in numerous places for the first time, despite having been to Shirakawa Village- Instagram kayabuki photo op- on several occasions. I'm not sure about the sections of bamboo.
